About us Owner Ethan Emery, a native of Maine, visited San Miguel de Allende in the late nineties and found a piece of land he loved. The original plan was to build a home for friends and family, but he later decided to open its doors to the public. Casa Misión de San Miguel, which Ethan built to resemble the Paradors of Spain—religious missions turned into county inns—began operations in May 2005. Ethan spends his summers in Maine and his winters in San Miguel. An architect, he loves to cook and entertain, act and sing, but most of all, to build. He is currently completing Casa Misión Part II across the street, complete with pool, Jacuzzi, more guest rooms and inviting common areas. General Manager Anja Maser grew up behind the Iron Curtain in East Germany and left for Montreal, Canada, in the early nineties, where she attended McGill University. She came to San Miguel in 1998 and spent her first five years working as features editor of the local English-language weekly, Atención San Miguel. Speaking several languages, Anja also practices Taekwondo and enjoys dancing (and teaching) Salsa.
