“And take a sidetrip to Guanajuato, the regional center, for a taste of Old World Mexico where Diego Rivera used to live, visit a silver mine and art museum and especially,  think about buying the exquisite silver jewelry that made my gold-loving wife  appreciate the more subtle charms of its less precious sister.” –Patrick and Michelle, San Rafael, CA, June 2006

If you're here for any length of time,
we suggest a day trip to Guanajuato
or Dolores Hidalgo.

Guanajuato - Mexico's chief source of silver since the middle of the 16th century. A trip to the mines, the Diego Rivera's Museum, Don Quijote Museum, the Mummy Museum, and the Alhóndiga (one of the starting points of the Mexican Independence).

Dolores Hidalgo - Is considered to be the "Cuna de la Independencia de México". On September 16, 1810 the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang the bells of the church calling everyone by launching the famous "Grito de la Independencia".

A daytrip to Dolores, with its beautiful central square and massive tree that is almost two hundred years old is a trip not to be missed! Famous mainly for talavera and carpentry, exotic and delicious ice creams are also one of the highlights when visiting this peaceful Mexican town.

Other must sees include Atotonilco and a relaxing morning at one of San Miguel's many thermal pools. Bring your bathing suit.
